Vitamins make up the category of micronutrients which include minerals. They are an essential part of our diet as they promote growth and development and are crucial for the proper functioning of the body, including metabolism, immunity, and digestion.
Vitamins are found in whole food sources such as fruits, vegetables, and animal products. Most of the vitamins we need we must obtain from outside sources, preferably in the form of food, as we cannot make them. The exception would be certain B vitamins and vitamin K that can be manufactured by our intestinal bacteria.
There are two categories of vitamins, water-soluble and fat-soluble.
Water-soluble vitamins are less easily stored in the body which means we need to be consuming them regularly and toxicity is rare. These vitamins include B vitamins and vitamin C.
Fat-soluble vitamins, on the other hand, can be stored in the body for long periods of time, therefore, we can go for longer without them. However, this also means that at higher doses toxicity can occur more easily. The fat-soluble vitamins include A, D, E and K.
Deficiencies in vitamins can compromise overall health and lead to nutritional disorders if one is not careful. Most vitamin supplements are recommended in cases of deficiency, but vitamins can also be taken to complement a healthy diet and boost nutrient status.
AOR Advanced B Complex was designed to provide the most advanced forms of B vitamins in the most scientifically discerning ratios available. These nutrients help metabolize carbohydrates, proteins, and fats for energy and support tissue and red blood cell formation.
Though they have essential roles in the body B vitamins are easily lost from the body through urine and sweat. This fact, combined with other factors such as a modern diet high in processed foods, means that it’s easy to become deficient in B vitamins. Additionally, certain groups, including vegans, vegetarians, and the elderly, are at greater risk for Vitamin B deficiency.
The active forms of the B vitamins represent a form that your body can utilize immediately to support many functions including energy, stress and burnout, metabolism, and nerve function. The B vitamin family includes vitamin B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B7 (biotin), B9 (folic acid or folate), and B12 (cobalamin).
Vitamin B12 is a vitamin necessary for energy production and nervous system function as it is needed to produce myelin, the fatty matter that forms a protective sheath around nerves. It is also required for the production of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that helps with retention and learning; for the synthesis of red blood cells; and for producing the genetic materials, DNA and RNA.
Most vitamin B12 comes from animal source foods and is deficient in strict vegetarian diets. Vitamin B12 works with folic acid to control homocysteine levels. Research shows that high levels of homocysteine may dramatically increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. However, many of us may not be absorbing vitamin B12 as effectively from food as we could and others, such as vegetarians and vegans, may develop outright deficiencies in this important vitamin. Methylcobalamin is the active form of B12 to improve absorption and assimilation.
Vitamin D helps with the absorption of calcium and phosphorus to keep your bones and teeth strong and protect against disease, but it also has many other vital functions. Supplements are made from one of two forms - D2 or D3. CanPrev only uses vitamin D3 in their softgels and here’s why.
Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is photosynthesized in plants, mushrooms, and yeast and used typically in vitamin D fortified foods and some supplements. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), is known as the “sunshine” vitamin and is easily synthesized by the body when the sun’s UVB rays strike the skin. It is the most natural form of vitamin D and offers superior absorption compared to vitamin D2.
Each softgel of D3 & K2 delivers 1,000 IU of vitamin D3 and 120 mcg of vitamin K2, or menaquinone-7, a potent form of vitamin K derived from natto, or fermented soy. Menaquinone-7 is an effective activator of osteocalcin, the protein essential for calcium deposition in bone. It works synergistically with vitamin D3 to help influence mineral strength in bones and teeth.
CanPrev’s D3 & K2 softgels are suspended in a medium-chain triglyceride base made from organic coconut oil. Coconut oil is a stable fatty acid that enhances the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients. Get the benefits of a sunshine vacation every day of the year with CanPrev’s D3 & K2 softgels.
Progressive Vitamin C Complex provides isolated sources of Vitamin C for increased potency as well as whole food sources for their natural balance and bioavailability. Plus, the plant-based digestive support of papaya and black pepper extract increase the absorption and maximize the health-promoting properties of the entire formula, by improving the passage of nutrients in the bloodstream, making it more effective in the body.
Progressive Vitamin C Complex is formulated for optimal absorption and antioxidant protection with 7 vitamin sources, 8 fruit extracts and 7 support nutrients.
